This time a year ago I was half way across the across the world on my way home to surprise my friends and family after having lived away for a year. Sipping my stiff G&T I may have been heading home but I felt like I was going into the unknown. I had no job to come home to, no idea what I wanted to do, I was just riding the wave of the excitement of the big surprise (which went perfectly btw, in fact my Mum was so shocked she wouldn't open the door properly and left me on the doorstep!).
Since then a lot has changed, If I could give 2019 Lucy 5 bits of advice this is what I would say:
-
Don't be upset over returning to jobs you've already had your leaving party for. Going back to being a barista is not a step backwards. In fact it's a step forward, you'll be surrounded by people who only want to help you and want to see you achieve your dream.
-
Stop worrying about your weight! Yes you may have had a fair few brunches in Melbourne, yes your favourite leather skirt doesn't fit at the moment. But it will, and it's not worth stressing over.
-
No, ordering 300 Christmas cards isn't too many. Yes you will sell out and have to reorder (twice!).
-
It's okay if you don't want to move into a city just yet (or ever!). Being comfortable and happy in the countryside is okay for a 25 year old. It doesn't make you boring or behind anyone else.
-
Finally, don't sit on the old bench on your patio the day after your 25th birthday when you have the hangover from hell. It will break, and you will end up on the floor.
