When you shop small, you're not just buying products; you're investing in the dreams and hard work of local entrepreneurs. You're helping families put food on the table, giving back to local charities, and keeping the local economy going. Plus, who doesn’t love the personal touch that small businesses bring? Whether it's the thoughtful packaging, a hand-written note or custom-made items, by a person who is truly passionate about what they do!
Here are some effective ways to support small businesses whether you’re in a position to buy from them or not…
- Shop Locally: Choose local shops for your Christmas shopping. Whether that’s the gift shop on your local high street or if you know of a small business working from home. It helps them and the environment - perhaps contact them and see if you can pick up too, saves dealing with postal delays!
- Buy Gift Cards: Not sure what to get? Easy! Just buy a gift voucher! Most small businesses offer digital gift vouchers which also means if you’re a little late to your Christmas shopping you can still support them!
- Attend Local Markets: Christmas is the perfect time to head to a local market. Make a day off It! Pick up your Christmas presents, have a hot chocolate (or mulled wine!) and explore the local area. Become a tourist in your own town.
- Spread the Word: Not in a position to buy from a small business? That’s okay. Spread the word, whether it’s sharing a post or reel on instagram or telling your friends about them. It makes all the difference!
- Leave Reviews: I often wonder why do we only ever take time out of our day to leave negative reviews? Spread some Christmas good cheer and write some positive reviews for your fave small businesses. This can make all the difference to a new customer browsing the store!
- Choose Experiences: Consider gifting experiences, like tickets to local events, workshops, or your favourite family owned restaurant.
So there you have it! Simple but effective ways of supporting small businesses this Christmas.
Which will you do?
