I then looked into the farming year, and what happens within each month, so March is of course lambing time, and August is bringing in the harvest. This is one part of my job that I really love - learning about things I wouldn't necessarily be involved in. For each month there is 'Now in season' explaining what fruit and veg are in season and a little paragraph explaining what is going on in the countryside/farming.

You need to keep records of all sales and all expenses and you'll need to keep these on file for seven years. Even after you have filed your return for the year - so make sure you get some folders ready to keep them all in!

Please know my story is slightly different to others, I never set out to start a business, I never really intended this to be my career, it almost, sort of just happened. There isn't a certain way to get going but I will tell you how I feel Doodling Lucy began and, if you're thinking of starting your own business, some things I wish I had known at the beginning...

And yet, even with all these perks, even with being able to follow my passion I have been struggling recently. I knew when I went full time with my small business it wouldn't always be plain sailing but it still takes me by surprise every time I resent my life choices.

Farming themes can be seen throughout my work and products So, as you may know by now one of my core values is to promote Back British Farming. But why? What's my link with farming? Why does it mean so much to me? My Grandfather (who we call Papa) grew up on a cider farm in Devon, this farm has been in my family for over 300 years and is still going today! He and my Granny moved to run a farm in Hampshire which is where my Dad grew up, and has since been taken over by my Uncle....
